Jim & Liz Reid share their Trans-Siberian railway adventures

Jim and Liz Reid have travelled extensively throughout the world. One of their favourite holidays was on the Trans-Siberian Railway. They travelled from Beijing to St Petersburg - the longest railway journey in the world.

Literary Lunch - Meet Dolores Bellemo, author of Crazy for Italy

Dolores Bellemo was born in Malta and arrived in Australia at the age of seven. Whilst Australia is home she has a love affair with Italy. Dolores studied Italian at university and first visited that country in 1975. Since then she has been back many times and her book Crazy for Italy celebrates her love for the country its inhabitants. The book is illustrated by her husband architect and artist, Aldo Bellemo.

Dolores is the author of a number of other works and currently teaches Italian at Emerald U3A

Discover aromatherapy for health and wellbeing

Join us to learn more about the safe and personal applications of pure essential plant oils, known as Aromatherapy, for home and family use. Jane Margaret is a Health Educator and Clinical Therapist in Aromatic Medicine. She offers supportive treatments using oils, flower essences, health counselling and therapeutic massage. Jane is currently writing books for publication on her experiences and successes in this work, with treatments which can be safely used to support health and wellbeing.

Literary Lunch - Author Adrian Hyland discusses the heroes of the 2009 bushfires

Adrian Hyland’s latest book Kinglake-350 records the experiences and heroism of those caught in the 2009 bushfires. The book has garnered warm praise from readers and reviewers alike.

Adrian’s two previous books, Diamond Dove and Gunshot Road are set in Central Australia and feature Aboriginal sleuth Emily Tempest. Diamond Dove was the winner of the Ned Kelly Award for First Fiction in 2007.

Adrian is a lecturer at La Trobe University.

Lantern-making workshops to be held at Belgrave and Ferntree Gully libraries in June

In preparation for the annual Lantern Parade, Belgrave and Ferntree Gully libraries will play host to several lantern-making workshops.

The Lantern Parade is a community participation event with the parade going down Main Street.

Lantern Parade is on Saturday 18th June 5:30pm. Belgrave Library will be open and there will be a storyteller entertaining children at 7pm.

It's Library Week! #LIW2011 Do you know someone that's not a member? Do they like scary movies?

To celebrate Library Week 2011 we're running a couple of promotions in the Belgrave area.

Belgrave Railway Station
When: Tuesday and Wednesday morning 7-8am

Library staff will be at Belgrave Railway station handing out free library bags and copies of Good Reading magazine. On Wednesday they'll be handing out free cupcakes too, to support the Biggest Morning Tea.
