It's Library Week! #LIW2011 Do you know someone that's not a member? Do they like scary movies?

To celebrate Library Week 2011 we're running a couple of promotions in the Belgrave area.

Belgrave Railway Station
When: Tuesday and Wednesday morning 7-8am
Where: Belgrave Railway Station, Belgrave

Library staff will be at Belgrave Railway station handing out free library bags and copies of Good Reading magazine. On Wednesday they'll be handing out free cupcakes too, to support the Biggest Morning Tea.

We're having a membership drive in the Belgrave area. Six traders in Main Street are displaying special yellow library membership forms -

Earthly Pleasures, Green Bean Cafe, Puffing Billy Cafe, Belgrave Book Barn, Through the looking glass secondhand books, Belgrave Pharmacy

1. Fill out one of the yellow membership forms
2. Hand into Belgrave Library this week and you'll receive a movie ticket to the Cameo cinema in Belgrave (not just for scary movies either).

Literary Lunch with Toni Jordan

Toni Jordan's first book Addition (2008) was published to critical acclaim and the publication rights have been sold around the world. Her second book Fall Girl (2010) has received similar positive responses. Please join us for an entertaining lunch.

Bag a Book

Join ERL's Library Week Ambassador, Ann Creber and celebrate Library Week at the fourth annual Bag a Book event.

Come along and spend the library's money to purchase a special book for your branch. Take the opportunity to do some personal shopping, Borders are offering a 15% discount on items purchased on the evening (conditions apply). There will be giveaways, quizzes and cake and lots of beautiful books.

Bag a Book goes off with a bang!

Eastern Regional Libraries' second Bag A Book evening to celebrate Library Week was held at Knox Borders on Tuesday 20th May.

The evening was a great success. Our borrowers enjoyed the opportunity to choose the books, CDs and DVDs that they want to see in their local library branch. Borders hosted the evening in great style, with lots of food and competitions.

Over 130 people spent $9300 of the library's budget choosing more than 200 items. Cooking, Gardening, Art, Natural History and childrens' Picture Books were the main areas of interest. Some of the book highlights were the purchase of several copies of Gordon Ramsay’s new cookbook, Recipes from a 3 star chef, The French Laundry Cookbook by Thomas Keller and a boxset of the complete set of Stanley Kubrick DVDs.

Our thanks to Vicky, Cameron, Carla and the rest of the Border's staff who graciously hosted the night; to Lorraine, Janet, Lyn, Joseph and the other ERL staff who helped organise the event; and to all of our members who were able to attend and help us select some terrific items for our collections.
