Library staff members Lesley Conway and Pia Butcher run a radio show each Wednesday 12:05pm-12:45pm on Eastern FM 98.1 called The Eastern Regional Library Show. Tune in next Wednesday for a great show.
On Wednesday's show
Local musicians and musical groups often contact us in the library when they have produced a CD, and we are very happy to hear from them. One of the CDs I had along today was recorded by a very local group, the Sweet Sassafras Community Choir. In three short years they have developed a very polished sound, and on their CD Shine on me you will find a wonderful mix of songs from around the world.
Next came a couple of tracks from First Take, produced by the Australian fiddle music school which is based in Melbourne, featuring some toe tapping polkas, jigs and reels.
Finally, a very well known musician Tony O'Connor whose technique is to record sounds in natural environments and compose music to blend and enhance these natural sounds. Today we heard Memories from his CD Rainforest Magic, and there are several more of his titles in our libraries, including Awakenings, Summer Rain and Kakadu.
It's not just music CDs and books read onto CD in our collection. There are also some very useful and informative CD-ROMS in our branches, including Plants of Melbourne's Outer East : indigenous flora and environmental weeds (and how to remove the weeds)
