In 1969 Don Tate was a volunteer soldier with the 2nd Defence and Employment platoon in the jungles of Vietnam. Wounded in action, he fought for many years to prove that the platoon ever existed, finally winning his campaign earlier this year. Don is also believed to be the only infantry veteran who has a film record of his entire period of active service, thanks to the 8mm camera he carried with him during his service in Vietnam.
Don’s book records not just his war experiences but his tough childhood in Brisbane, and his post war struggles dealing with a serious injury and the trauma of readjustment to civilian life.
Don will be showing film of his wartime experiences.
