Update on the Internet Service Provider changeover & paper notices

We have recently switched Internet Service Providers and the IT department have been hard at work to make the transition as streamless as possible. The final two sites Mooroolbark Library & the Monbulk Community Reading Room are expected to be back up today.

Meanwhile during the changeover you may find that you receive a paper notice for holds and overdues. Your usual phone, email or SMS notification will be back soon.

Thanks for your patience during the changeover.

SMS notification for holds and overdues

Library users now have the option to be notified via SMS when their hold is ready to be collected or when their items are overdue.

On your next library visit, please advise staff you wish to adjust your membership record for SMS notification, it only takes a few seconds. Make sure you provide staff with the correct number.

We also have email notification, for members who prefer to receive emails.

Records locked causing an issue with some items being checked in

Due to a consortium report that has been running all day in error and editing all items in the database some items are locked when staff attempt to check them in. If the report does not finish tonight, please note that all items will be clearcharged from members cards as soon as staff are able to do so. This will clear the overdue charge on the card if the item is not checked in on the day it was returned.

Also, you will probably still have issues placing holds via the e-Library catalogue. Keep trying over the weekend.

We apologise for any inconvenience. This issue is out of our control.

I will try to update everyone via the blog over the weekend.

Cheers, Maryanne

Duplicate phone and paper notification

We may have some members out there that will receive paper notification for a hold or overdue in the next few days when they have already been notified by phone. This is the result of an error that halted the report to generate these. Apologies to the trees, but it was better to get two notifications than none at all.

Thank-you for supporting our collection for the CFA

Thanks to the generosity of our library users, ERL has raised over $3000 to go to the CFA. The ERL Board has decided that all overdue charges taken throughout ERL service points this week (23rd-29th March) will be added to that amount.

Receiving email notices

If you have your library record set up to receive email notices instead of the phone calls or paper notices for overdues and holds you might need to make sure that the notices aren't going to your Spam/Junk Mail folder.

If you think you should have received a notice, check your Spam/Junk folder first to see if the notice is there.

Email notices for overdues and holds have the following email address as the sender:

swift email address

The subject is called:

Library Notice - Automated notice - Do Not Reply

Check your email settings to see if you can add this address into a safe list so that emails from this address are never sent to the Spam folder.

If you haven't yet set your record up so that you receive email notices, please ask staff to do this on your next visit. It's really easy and means you won't be woken up at 9am by the automated system. Of course you'll have to make sure you don't exceed your email quota as the emails won't get through.
