'I watched the glaze of headlights, the windscreens of oncoming cars: a series of trapezoids with the silhouette of a single male driver. One pulled up in front of me; I reached over and opened the door, slid in. The smell of an unfamiliar car. A middle-aged man looking at me. ‘Hi,’ I said. ‘How are you?’

The Eastern Regional Library Show

Each Wednesday 12:05pm-12:45pm Lesley Conway does a radio show on Eastern FM 99.1 called The Eastern Regional Library Show. Just in from Lesley

On today's show

This week I looked at resources for planning your overseas trip. A good starting point for the most up-to-date information are the travel magazines, including Vacations and travel, Australian gourmet traveller and Vogue entertaining and travel. Other magazines which can be useful include Country Life for travel in Britain, and even gardening magazines like Burke's Backyard will include travel suggestions. There are many many travel guides from the well known Lonely Planet, Fodor, Rough Guides and Frommers which go beyond the standard guides, to give suggestions for walking, cycling trekking and food.

If you are a garden lover like me, books about the subject you love can be a starting point. For me, the following books suggest several possible garden visits...
Kitchen gardens of France, The gourmet garden and Edith Wharton's Italian gardens, all held by ERL. If I were heading for Asia, The hidden gardens of Kyoto or The gunpowder gardens ; travels through India and China in search of tea might inspire me.

Music played today from Le pas du chat noir and Amelie
