The Eastern Regional Library Show
On this week's show
If you're heading north to warmer weather this winter, consider borrowing some materials for an extended loan. When you borrow, just let the staff know and they will alter the return date for you. You might find that there are some great CDs or Audio Books at other branches which you would like to take with you. Don't forget our budget Reservation Cards, which reduce the cost of reservations by a third.
When you are planning your trip, there is a huge amount of information available both in books and magazines. If you don't want to take a lot of books, you can photocopy relevant information, and if you need colour copies, we can provide an A4 copy for just 60 cents.
The following books, magazines, CD's and talking book were reviewed today:
Explore wilderness Australia
100 magic miles of the Great Barrier Reef
Vogue Living (magazine)
Australian Gourmet Traveller (magazine)
Bon Apetit! by Peter Mayle (Audio book)
Bryn : double album special edition, Bryn Terfel (CD)
Built for speed, Adam Brand (CD)

The Eastern Regional Library Show
On this week's show
Back from 9 weeks leave, Pia (Youth Services at Croydon Library) brought us up to date with some books she has been enjoying. With a definite leaning towards fiction written for teens, we discussed books which defy categories, such as...
The curious incident of the dog in the night-time by Mark Haddon, about a teenager with Asperger's syndrome, and The boy in the striped pyjamas by John Boyne, about a young German boy whose father was an officer at Auschwitz.
Other books discussed on the programme were...
Shamers daughter by Kaaberbol
Amulet of Samarkand by Stroud
A monster wrote me a letter by Bland (picture book)
Music was I remember you by Frank Ifield which can be found on the CD Australian decades series : 60's, and is on the soundtrack of the Heartbeat TV series, with 3 videos of the series being available for loan.

The Eastern Regional Library Show
On this week's show
Guests Lorraine Seeger (Community Liaison Manager) and Bern Nolan (Belgrave Branch Manager) are off to England in two weeks time to investigate how some libraries deliver services to their communities. Some innovative ventures include library service in Leisure Centres and pubs, and here in Melbourne there are library services on commuter trains and in shopping centres.
Lorraine encourages any community member who is interested to give feedback to ERL via suggestion boxes in Branches or submissions on the proposed four year plan for ERL, on display in our branches this week.
There was no chocolate eaten this week, but Lorraine may return from her travels with some hints about where to find good chocolate in England.
Lorraine recommends upcoming talks (and books written) by Melbourne historian Robyn Annear and Stephen Ryan from Dicksonia Rare Plants Nursery.
Music played today
