Proposed new opening hours for Knox, Boronia, Ferntree Gully & Rowville libraries

We have had enormous interest in the proposed hours for Knox Libraries so I'm repeating this blog entry for any members who may have missed it.

Better, more user-friendly opening hours are planned for Knox’s libraries from 1st July. Knox City Council, together with Eastern Regional Libraries (ERL), have reviewed the current opening hours of Knox Branch Libraries in order to provide a more convenient and flexible service to Knox residents.

Author Garry Disher is the author of over 40 books for adults, teens and children. He is the recipient of the Ned Kelly Award for his crime fiction, the Ethel Turner Prize in the NSW Premier’s Awards and a coveted Children’s Book Council Award for his classic children’s novel The Bamboo Flute. His latest novel Wyatt was published in February 2010.

Staff at our branches are busy checking in all of the items returned over the Easter weekend, our busiest time of the year. Staff were clearing bookchutes on Saturday, however with the volume of items returned they are likely still checking in & clearing items today.

Libraries closed over Easter

All Eastern Regional Libraries branches and mobiles will be closed on the following days for the Easter break:

Friday 2nd April, Saturday 3rd April, Sunday 4th April & Monday 5th April

Branches and mobiles will resume normal hours on Tuesday 6th April. This includes Yarra Junction Library, which will re-open after their recent refurbishment.

You will be able to return items through the bookchute during this time. Note: Croydon bookchute is closed.

If you know the PIN on your card you can renew your items via the library catalogue. Follow the instructions in the Catalogue Tutorials.

Meet Madeleine Hamilton - Our Girls: Aussie pin-ups of the Forties & Fifties

Who was Australia’s Marilyn Monroe? Did we have our own Lana Turner? Madeleine Hamilton tracks down the swimsuit and glamour models of an earlier era to share their stories. Enriched with first-hand accounts from the models, and letters from their many fans, as well as gorgeous pictures of the girls themselves, Our Girls: Aussie Pin-ups of the 40s and 50s tells the tale of these women and Australian pin-up art before, during and after World War II.

In 2003, Madeleine Hamilton commenced a four-year mission to uncover Australia’s pin-ups of the 40s and 50s that resulted in a PhD from the University of Melbourne as well as the award-winning SBS documentary Paper Dolls: Australian Pin-up Girls of World War II.
